I'm a former elementary teacher, about to embark on a new adventure...tot school. My daughter will be turning two soon and have decided to formalize our learning process. I have seen several blogs about tot school and have been inspired. I hope we can pull this off.

Playing with ABC window clings
Found these at target in the dollar bins. I think my mom bought some for AB too, but took them home by mistake. Anyway, she is really enjoying exploring with them.

Vocabulary cards
We have been running around today, so we didn't have school. This evening, she is looking through her animal cards and playing with pom poms and rocks. Tomorrow, we will take a day off to reset ourselves.

Farm Theme Continued
This past weekend, I went to a library book sale. I got A LOT of books, including these fun farm books. They are displayed, in hopes she will be intrigued by them. And she was. We read three of the four books. And the book What Does a Cow Say?, that was read several times.
We subscribe to this magazine and it just happens that the newest one has an article about lambs. The timing couldn't be any better.
I got these nomenclature cards from Counting Coconuts. They are for learning some vocabulary.
The cards are the adult and baby animal names. AB had a difficult time with this. One of the cards shows a baby chick, which looks like her stuffed baby ducky (you'll see him in a minute). So then she had to go find baby ducky and started calling him a chick.
Pouring the rocks instead of color sorting them
We did a lot of art today. She did art this morning, after toddler aerobics, and after dinner.
Baby Ducky coloring
Doing a tractor puzzle. Right away she knew it was a tractor. When I say right away, I mean when she saw the very first piece, she said "tractor".
Water colors
She is upset in this picture because yellow (her favorite color) has turned green.
I guess thats what happens when she puts the brush into the blue, then the green and then puts into yellow, orange, and red without cleaning the brush first.
Toddler aerobics
Blurry because she was in motion!

Science Live Play Date!
This past Friday, our play group had a science day! The children played first, ate lunch, and then had some science fun.
Snack from Thursday
This idea came from the book The Toddler's Busy Book by Trish Kuffner. Its banana with graham crackers. This snack is super yummy and we love to have it.
Slice a banana. We tried using a play knife, still didn't work out great. I am helping her cut the banana. We're going to keep trying though!
Haha...look at her face. She is crushing graham crackers with all her might.
Put the slices in, close the bag, and shake
Enjoy!
Two at one time!

We had lunch and played at the park with friends today. I can't believe this wonderful weather.

Farm Fun
Some days we spend very little time in the classroom and other days, we will be in there for a few hours. I never make AB do anything that she doesn't want to do. The reason I am saying this is because today I introduced her to worksheets. Yes, worksheets. They are simple worksheets that I'm doing with her. You will see down below. Obviously, I won't be giving her a ton of them to work on. She IS only two. But I think its just another great way to teach concepts in different ways.
Right away she noticed her new sensory box and played with it for about half an hour.
Feeling the beans
She went to her kitchen and got the bowls
I had her color over the picture that was different or the words I used were "which one doesn't match". I used that wording because we play memory and use the word "match". So I did the first two with her and then she did the rest. The first two she did, she got, but the last row she didn't. Maybe because she decided to start counting the ducks instead of seeing which one didn't match. We just discussed that all the ducks had yellow beaks and the different one had a red one.
Counting the animals and then picking the correct number out of the options.
Here I am, helping count the pigs. This is part of a farm unit from 2 teaching mommies. You will see more from this unit in the coming days.
This also came from 2 teaching mommies. It was actually a paper puzzle to start. But I traced the pieces on felt and cut them out. Then I had AB recreate the tractor.
Here it is finished. I didn't tell her she placed the parts wrong. The main body of the tractor, I did, to start her off.
